Why Choose an Oculoplastic Surgeon?
Your face is always visible, so when considering cosmetic or reconstructive surgery around the eyes and upper face, the surgeon’s training is crucial. Oculoplastic Surgery—also called Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery or Oculofacial Plastic Surgery—is a specialized field focused on the eyelids, tear system, eye socket (orbit), and surrounding facial structures.
Oculoplastic surgeons first complete four years of rigorous ophthalmology training, becoming experts in the care of the delicate eye and its surrounding tissues. They then undergo an additional two years of fellowship training in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid and facial surgery, gaining expertise that surpasses the specialized eyelid knowledge of other cosmetic surgeons.
This combination of precise eye care and advanced surgical skill ensures the safest procedures and the most natural, aesthetically pleasing results. Consulting an oculoplastic surgeon means you are meeting with a true specialist in eyelid and facial surgery—someone uniquely qualified to protect both your vision and your appearance.
What is ASOPRS?
The American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) is the leading professional organization for oculoplastic surgeons. Membership requires completion of an accredited fellowship, rigorous surgical training in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid and facial procedures, passing written and oral exams, and producing a scientific thesis based on original research.
Only a small number of surgeons worldwide—approximately 500—meet these exacting standards. All Eyesthetica surgeons are full ASOPRS members, meaning they have fulfilled these stringent criteria and are highly trained experts in both cosmetic and reconstructive oculoplastic surgery.
